According to a notification of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs department, a copy of which has been accessed by THE PUBLISH, The Speaker of eastwhile J&K state  Assembly shall cease to hold the office after the bifurcation state into two Union territories.

The law department has taken the decision after due deliberation as it had become untenable to continue with the post of speaker of the erstwhile state after the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories.

Dr. Nirmal Singh was earlier Deputy Chief Minister of the state and was appointed to the post of speaker after a major reshuffle in which Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta and Dr Nirmal Singh swapped positions.
